Convert Bank of America statements to QuickBooks

Upload a Bank of America checking, savings statement PDF and download a CSV in the exact column layout QuickBooks Online's bank upload accepts (3-column Date/Description/Amount or 4-column Date/Description/Credit/Debit), or an OFX file.

How Statemio reads Bank of America statements

Bank of America statements split deposits, withdrawals and checks into separate tables with section totals. We combine them into one dated list and check the result against the beginning and ending balance.

Statemio has a layout-specific reader for Bank of America checking and savings statements. We regression-test it on synthetic statements modelled on the bank's published layout. Banks change their layouts, so we never assume it worked: the balance check tells you on every file.

The balance check

Opening balance + every transaction must equal the closing balance (for credit cards, previous balance − payments + charges = new balance). If the totals don't match, you see a red badge and the rows that break the running balance, before you download anything. Pages from statements that don't balance aren't counted against your allowance.

Bank of America statement to QuickBooks: step by step

  1. Convert the PDF and check the balance badge.
  2. Download QBO 3-col (or 4-col, or OFX).
  3. In QuickBooks Online go to Banking (Transactions → Bank transactions), choose Upload transactions / Upload from file, pick the account, and map the columns if asked.
  4. For credit cards, QuickBooks expects charges as negative amounts; use the 'flip signs' option if your import comes out reversed.

Excel and CSV are free. QuickBooks Online CSV (3- or 4-column) or OFX is included with a page pack or plan. See pricing.
